Okay so 1: This is hilarious and I’ve never read anything better in my life,

2: To be fair to Agatha, she learned subtle from Mechanicsburg and particularly from jägers, so honestly this is pretty good.

Oh, this is absolutely the consequence of Agatha learning subtlety from Mechanicsburg.

Something that isn’t really addressed in “It takes a village” is that, while Agatha dresses pretty much like she does in canon while she’s in Mechanicsburg, she has a radically different fashion sense in Beetleburg, where she decided that in order to pass herself as a Very Normal Student, Nothing To See Here, she simply had to crib Vanamonde’s fashion sense.

Possibly that’s just because the mental image she has for ‘respectable young adult’ is Van, and a general unawareness of the fact that, no… Van is… he’s just a fancy goth. Also these are not her colors.

But also, because she tends towards dark and cool colors, it gives her a much more matronly vibe that does help when it comes to keeping the other students in line.

Later, after they find out she’s a Heterodyne, many of the people who knew her at TPU will think ‘oh, that explains why she always dressed so creepy’, but no. No, that was just her plan for blending in. That was Agatha trying to be subtle

Smoke Knights are EXPECTED by their family to be in Hufflepuff. They are pitied by other Hufflepuffs, because THEIR LOYALTY WAS GIVEN AWAY AT BIRTH! THEY NEVER GOT TO CHOOSE FOR THEMSELVES! More than one Smoke Knight has found themselves pulled aside by a senior to be told: yes, I know your loyalty has been promised to another, but you still get a choice. And if you decide to choose another, know that you have our support. Mechanicsburg kids are seen as a Lost Cause.

Violetta’s always just “I’m considering it”. But then when she does choose someone else it’s with Tarvek’s approval (and matchmaking) anyway.

Mechanicsburg kids know they have a choice. They just never make any choice but Heterodynes.

Hufflepuff first-years are off-limits to loyalty courting. Anyone caught breaking this rule is going to face the FULL WRATH of the Hufflepuff 6th and 7th years. Mind control is forbidden – yes, all types of love potion are included in this. Anyone caught doing this is going to find themselves blacklisted for the rest of their schooling life, and maybe even afterwards. Lucrezia and some members of Tarvek’s family make mental notes not to get caught.

Slytherins have a bad reputation for going straight to mind control – which means the Slytherins that don’t are really pissed at the ones that do.
