My brain: the fact that David liked Teddy was an obvious reach for drama by Gillen because Teddy just….isn’t his type. Even with that “I like good guys” line that David says, that still makes no sense for why he would be into Teddy. Not that you can’t have multiple types, but David’s only past relationship was Nori, who is nothing like Teddy. The closest I can think of to the “Teddy Type” on David’s old team is Sofia/Wind Dancer, who he was co-leader with, and he never had a BIT of romantic tension with her. David connects to fun, impulsive type people. It’s why he was Best Friends with Josh and is current Best Friends with America. It’s why is loved Nori. It’s why he was drawn to Tommy when they first met. Teddy isn’t like those people at all. But at the same time, him kissing Teddy doesn’t have to be because he genuinely liked him. David said himself, he thought they were dying, it’s not like he saw a future for them, he just wanted that burning question at the back of his head to be answered before he choked. So why not do it with another character? Why choose a character that David canonically would have never been drawn to without the circumstance, that’s in a relationship, (one of the most iconic gay marvel relationships at that) to confirm David is bi. In my mind, it just serves to attempt to brand a black character as a bad guy. And the worst part about it, is even if it was stupid for Gillen to do? He still never tried to frame David as someone with malicious intent. He never meant to cause an issue, and look how the fandom takes it! When people ignored David earlier, now people claim Billy hates him! and that he sexually assaulted Teddy! David never was going to be able to win in this situation cause its bullshit characterization used to start drama, and we all know how quick people are to turn on a black man in fandom.
I’ve been catching up with comics and I really enjoy Hope Summers. Every time someone comments that she’s exactly like her dad, my heart swells. I want movie!Hope a lot!!!
