For starters there already have been two certain people for whom Zoro undoubtly cares for, that have been ‘taken against their actual will and held hostage’, Sanji and Robin
Still, that was his reaction when finding out Robin sacrificed herself for them.
And this after he found out about the Sanji deal.
worried yes, incredibly emotional, close to tears…big no.
The thing is tho, that they’re both not the best examples because A) Zoro is closer to Chopper, Luffy and Brook for instance and B) Sanji and Robin are two grown ass adults that made the conscious decision to go to their possible tormentors for the sake of their crew.
Yet..imagining Zoro to go berserk because he’s so angry and cannot think straight…does not really feel like him, much less after the time skip.
Even when he sacrificed himself for Luffy (if you don’t think that Luffy along with Chopper and Kuina is the most important person in the world to Zoro you have to fight me) he was all calm and thought things through.
Zoro is not an aggressive person that can get overwhelmed by his emotions, yes I know people are going to point to his enemies he dealt with in quite a…violent way.
But brutality doesn’t equal aggressiveness and lack or restraint, Zoro brutalizing his opponents is a decision he makes right before he attacks them, they’re has not been one point where he was so furious he was unable to hold back, he is able to hold back, he chooses not to and go all wide eyed and evil grinning on his opponents.
Sanji tho,
Sanji yes yes yes absolutely Sanji is just like you have described in your ask, Sanji is nowhere near as brutal or violent as Zoro but he completely lacks restraint sometimes.
When Sanji gets angry he attacks his opponents without thinking twice and is only concerned with the asshole he is attacking/the person he is avenging or protecting with that.
Sanji was not able to keep his cool, his fury overode his common sense and he lashed out completely without thinking twice.
He was overwhelmed by his emotions.
So yeah coming back to your ask Zoro is unlikely to go crazy out of anger, while it sounds very much like Sanji
Sanji may be analytically and tactically gifted and seems to be cool mostly yet he is the one who is hotheaded and easily angered and provoked and more likely to be let by his emotions.
Zoro may be more the idiot whose usual way to go is to just chop and cut through everything he faces, yet he is the one with a kind of calculating vein, brutal nature and the ability to restrain himself and hold back.
Idk about you but it’s very cool how Zoro and Sanji are kinda similar and then again utterly different in some ways.
“There are a lot of flashback scenes in One Piece, but that’s because there is a special feeling I want to convey through them. I’d like to think that by showing you the characters when they were children, they could become like your childhood friends. […] As you watch over their growth like this, I feel that a deep bond has been formed between all of you and Luffy and his friends.” – Oda Eiichiro
