George W. Bush is reportedly calling undecided senators to sway them to vote for Kavanaugh

So can we please stop framing him as some sweet little harmless old dude now?

George W. Bush helped shape the conservative “anti-abortion” movement as a political movement with teeth. He denied funding to health organizations that performed abortions or even that handed out condoms or other forms of birth control. I am not surprised in the least that he is throwing his weight behind anti-abortion Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh would have been exactly the Supreme Court nominee he would have chosen to help smooth the path after losing the popular vote to Al Gore but getting the electoral college and to help support him in starting an illegal war.

A lot of millennials were just children when George Bush was president. Many of us began truly paying attention to politics during the Obama Administration.

In turn, many of us don’t remember that George W. Bush was literally so evil and was the literal figure head and one of the fathers who pushed America’s current state of social ignorance. Islamophobia, Homophobia, Welfare discrimination, anti choice rhetoric, and imprisonment rates of Black Americans and Latinos. He was a vehement liar and a vomit inducing scoundrel. He catapulted this country into a useless war over oil and resources. Which has lead to the death and displacement of millions of innocent Middle Easterners/South Asians and built a strong base for Islamophobia. Literally, his administration set the base for the hundreds of thousands of current refugees.

Read up and get educated on why he isn’t just some “old man who likes to paint in his free time now that he’s not president”.

George W. was when “libtard” started becoming a thing. I know that because I was in middle school and it was used a lot. It was because being a “liberal” was being a traitor.

George W. was when wanting to do something about climate change was made political and anti-American.

George W. was when disagreeing with the GOP was declared anti-American and a terrorist sympathizer.

George W. was in charge of deregulation that led to the huge financial crisis.

George W. presided over a completely illegitimate invasion of Iraq because his advisors wanted to take out Saddam because people had mocked them for not doing it in the Gulf War.

George W. then utterly destabilized Iraq when he didn’t have to by forcing anyone who’d been in power during the Ba’ath party dominance to pretty much just go home. So all the trained officials and solider and guards were told to beat it. This is what eventually led to the rise of ISIS

George W. tried to get a constitutional amendment against gay marriage.

George W. embarrassed us on the world stage, to the point where Obama had to go around re-establishing relations (which the GOP mocked as an “apology tour”)

George W. utterly fucked up the Katrina response, leading to huge tragedy that still has effects today.

George W. was a terrible president who people forgot because the GOP made him stay out of the spotlight for years after his presidency because he was such an embarrassment to them. They’re only trotting him out now because people HAVE forgotten.

Jair Bolsonaro is an openly racist, misogynistic and homophobic man who’s leading the race to become Brazil’s next president. He’s said that he’d rather have a dead son than a gay one. He’s said that women deserve less pay than men. He’s said to a congresswoman (who was defending human rights) that he wouldn’t rape her because she’s too ugly. He’s said that his sons would never date a black woman because “they were very well educated”. And according to the election polls, he has 28% of the votes from our electorate. As a response to this absurdity, Brazilian women, LGBTQ and black people started the movement Ele Não (Not Him), or Ele Nunca (Never Him), to fight against this growing facist menace that’s looming over our country. Today, millions of people took the streets all over the nation (and the globe) to protest against him.

TIL – In an effort to solve the extremely high corruption rate problem, Georgia (the country) once fired it’s ENTIRE police force. It turned out that the police WERE the problem and the move actually worked, as the country’s corruption almost vanished in the following three months with no police.

america take note challenge

Here’s a direct link to the NPR article, since going through this stupid website sent me to an article about earthquakes in Canada.

It’s also worth mentioning that Georgia has a population of only 3 million and is roughly the size of West Virgina. Way easier to do national reform there than it would be here. (That’d be something they’d have to tackle on the state or local level, and god knows getting all 50 states to agree on ANYTHING is a hassle and a half).

When she woke up on Wednesday morning, the 77-year-old didn’t hesitate to stand up for what she says is another great injustice — the Ontario government passing legislation that a judge ruled violates the Constitution.

protests in russia, 9.09.2018

mycravatundone:

sorry for the long post, but i won’t hide it under read more, you’ll have to see this, boo hoo.

@ rich educated students living in europe or america, studying “russian culture” in their universities and wishing you lived here, or Woke ppl thinking all russians support their government’s actions and do nothing to stop them,

i cannot believe how lucky, privileged and naive yall are.

protests against retirement pension age reforms took place all over russia yesterday. they were unsanctioned, because in russia you’re supposed to apply for the authorities to let you host a protest; otherwise everyone is arrested and beaten up. which is what happened yesterday. these people were out on the streets protesting the recent change in retirement age (it was moved forward, thus making the chance of the government just keeping your money if you die before reaching the retirement age, which happens very often here as russians in general don’t have a long life span thanks to atrocious medical care system and the lack of resources)

stats: more than a 1000 people arrested, including old people, teenagers and children; people beaten up, some of them wounded or with broken limbs, some old people requiring urgent medical care; most of community organisers and opposition leaders detained before the start of the protests. (https://tvrain.ru/news/ovd_info-471172/)

all for a peaceful protest. some of these people knew what to expect, because this is how most of protests end here. some didn’t, and were old and frail, or young, and just wanted to express their discontent. they were treated violently, ruthlessly and cruelly. this is what my country is today.

i am enraged. i am grieving. i HATE that the rest of the world doesn’t care, that the west make all russian developments about themselves and the western media only reports russian news connected to the american elections. i hate that no one ever mentions or notices the suffering of the people, the people arrested and jailed for nothing, the people tortured to death in prisons, oleg sentsov’s hunger strike going on for over 100 days and counting, the murdered journalists, the unbelievably widespread and obvious corruption, the spread of religious propaganda in all civil affairs including education and medicine. nothing changes, nothing ever will. i hate this.

and this post won’t get more than like, 15 notes, most of them likes from my fellow russians. people i know in europe tell me to my fucking face that they consider putin’s regime “strong and powerful”, american commies post memes about stalin and lecture ME, A CRIMEAN TATAR, on how the soviet union was beneficial for the people. i can’t express the kind of despair i feel every day.

‘He’s just trolling people’: Ryan plays down Trump’s threat to revoke security clearances

fialleril:

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan on Tuesday played down
President Trump’s threat to revoke security clearances of former top
officials who have criticized him, saying he thinks the president is
merely “trolling people.”

Ryan (R-Wis.) was
asked about the possible White House action a day after press secretary
Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump is “looking to take away” the
clearances of half a dozen former senior national security and
intelligence officials who served in the administrations of George W.
Bush or Barack Obama.

“I think he’s trolling people, honestly,” Ryan said at a news conference with other House Republican leaders.

Ryan
said the issue falls under “the purview of the executive branch,” not
Congress, before saying again: “I think he’s just trolling people.”

The
White House’s threat on Monday immediately prompted accusations of
political retaliation by current and former officials, as well as
security analysts, who said Trump would set a dangerous precedent by
punishing political speech.

Several of the
officials he cited have written books questioning his leadership and his
affection for Russian President Vladimir Putin and harshly criticized
Trump in television interviews.

Ryan also said
Tuesday that Putin would not be invited to speak to Congress if he
accepts Trump’s invitation to come to Washington for another round of
talks.

“We will certainly not be giving him an invitation for a joint session,” Ryan said. “That’s something we do for allies.”

Ryan
added that he’s comfortable with Putin coming to the United States if a
message is delivered that Russia needs to stop interfering in U.S.
elections.

“It’s the message that counts,” Ryan said.

Millennials and Gen Z: Trump shows signs of being a genocidal dictator, we shouldn’t vote for him

Baby boomers: OOOOO Is your Safe Space being violated by his comments snowflake??? How AWFUL IT must be to have a REAL man for president instead of OoOoBamA

Trump, after being voted into office: *leaves the UN human rights council, puts hundreds of young children into prison camps and tent cities, takes away valuable items like rosaries similar to the removal of rings during the Holocaust, puts babies and toddlers into foster homes/orphanages, literally treats ACTUAL CHILDREN like prisoners for wanting a better life elsewhere*

Baby boomers: oh….oh no….

Millennials and Gen Z: *stare into the camera like they’re on the office*

bold of you to assume the boomers have reached the “oh no” point
