Curse the One Piece anime for censor-cutting Law flipping off Doflamingo. I knew it was coming (they censored him flipping off Kid way back when) but come on, that is the coup de grace of his epic FU to Doffy. The man’s arm has been cut off, there is blood everywhere, and he gets shot six times in the back a couple minutes after and then spends the rest of the episode lying in a pool of his own blood and you won’t show him putting up the middle finger for a couple seconds? Seriously?

Fun facts discovered through fanfic writing research: Shanks was approximately ten when he participated in the Battle of Edd War as it was about 25 years before the start of the series when Shanks is 35.

If Buggy’s the same age, not wonder he was scared back then!

Shanks was also only about 15 when Roger died and he started his own crew. Dude was the original supernova with that age!

(Hipster Shanks: I was a teenage threat to the world government before it was cool”)

On the other hand, when he was trying to dissuade Luffy from being on a pirate ship at such a young age, maybe he was speaking from experience…

Now I’m just trying to figure out when he became an Emperor, if it’s before he met Luffy then it’s before he was 25!

“I’ve really lost my edge. I used to lie a lot more…but now I can actually do those things!”

Usopp saying this is one of my favorite quotes ever. Why?

Think about it. So many characters like Usopp just end up learning that “lying is bad” and that’s the end of it. Instead, Usopp never grows out of his ability to tell tall tales in the series…but he becomes awesome enough to accomplish those feats instead.

Hell, even Usopp’s introduction is a subversion of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Instead of the usual, we see why the boy started crying wolf and when the wolves do come, he works his butt off to save the villagers who will never know what he did for them. And a lot of his old lies become true over the course of the story. Even the ridiculous-sounding ones. And it is amazingly unique-feeling.
