so i’ve talked about wanting to write this meta for a long time. i get asked fairly frequently why i feel so strongly about hating jiraiya, and i usually give a pretty direct answer but. i think it deserves a full explanation.
jiraiya is one of the more loved characters in naruto – i wouldn’t say he’s a big favorite, since he’s an older mentor rather than a protagonist. but the narrative wants you to love him, to grieve his loss, and most fans coming away feeling that way.
but i’m here to ruin that and make you hate this scumbag as much as i do and be glad the fucker’s dead.

Friendly reminder that Kiba would’ve kicked Naruto’s ass if it wasn’t for the bullshit reason Kishimoto wrote because he knew Naruto could never beat Kiba at that point in time since he didn’t know the summoning jutsu he used to beat Gaara yet or had the confidence/drive he did when fighting Neji
Kiba was the real winner of that match
If we’re gonna be real for a sec, most of the matches in that exam were total BS.
Kiba should have beat Naruto.
Ino should have beat Sakura.

Hinata might have had a good chance at winning if she hadn’t conveniently been set up against her emotionally abusive fuckhead of a cousin who was abusive for contrived and unnecessary reasons.
Sauce only won his match by stealing Lee’s moves. Which he continues doing with impunity like the goddamb slut he is.
And let me just point out that Lee would have thrashed ANY OTHER PERSON in that line up but he got shacked with Gaara who is a literal invincible death machine and no other genin in that room could have given him a legit fight.
Just. Hax. I’m calling Hax on that whole exam.

Omg yes, for sure. I feel like since Iruka is really hardworking and always trying to do his best all the time, he would be pretty dang good at fuuinjutsu once he got to learning from actual Uzushio-nin. He would totally be down to learn more while at Uzushio, to add onto the basics he learned at the academy and come back to Konoha being specialized in it, along side Naruto!
Oh also, I meant to add this onto my previous answer too, but if you have any ideas you’d like to add to the AU, you can totally throw in your own ideas too! I’m definitely not the first to do an Uzushio AU and I’m totally open for anyone else who might want to add onto it ❤ especially since I’m definitely not the best writer and am 100% guaranteed to miss details omg
Hey there anon! Sorry for the late response I’ve been traveling so I haven’t been able to get to it!
And yes! I imagined it definitely wouldn’t be much different from the anime. Since their personalities are mostly the same as canon, I still feel like they would start off with animosity that slowly grows into a really strong bond. I feel like since in this AU, Naruto doesn’t necessarily start off as a dead last (since he learned basics in Uzushio which didn’t treat him like trash), Sasuke wouldn’t think of him as annoying as he first did, but since Naruto still pales in comparison in things like battle IQ or strategic thinking as Sasuke, Sasuke would still think of him as super impulsive and not cut out for certain things, but sees that Naruto is still good in other aspects. And honestly, I’m pretty sure no matter what universe/world the two are stuck in, I’m sure they would be a strong duo no matter what ❤
Team 7 will definitely be a great team in this AU and I feel like their relationship would develop a bit more smoother than it did in canon, not that it wouldn’t have its difficulties. Sakura is definitely a huge part of the team and if I was ever a good enough writer to actually write this AU, I would definitely make her her own person and develop by her own means instead of basing it on whatever will hype the guys up.

Oh, yes, thank you for asking! Here’s a quick mock-up of the big difference (for Kakashi anyway): the flak jacket. I imagine it in a blue color and styled more after a US Navy flak jacket (circa 2000), with added Uzushio spirals. The spiral on the back mirrors Konoha’s design as a stylistic representation of the political ties/friendship between the two villages.
