Why I like them: he’s a normie loser kid trying to find himself and struggling with a lack of motivation in the face of peer abuse, which makes him immediately empathetic even through the fog of gag manga/shounen sadsack tropes, but also he’s so earnest and unbreakable, his personal self-image and social life is a shriveled husk but his values irt trust and protection are so unshakable you feel instinctively caught up in it, ESPECIALLY when he starts talking shit WITHOUT dying will. his body language is so meek and cowed yet his words are like, clear-cut, absolute, “I don’t know how I feel about him.” “I can’t take on the Vongola’s violence and put my friends in jeopardy”. I’m so proud of him. i love me boy

Why I don’t: a lot of his later behaviour re-contextualizes his earlier behaviour making it Quite Good Actually but sometimes amano doubles down in really bizarre places for arbitrary reasons so tsuna keeps getting placed into this “Harem Clown with exaggerated body language, wimpy, underwhelming physique, slightly perverted, and dehumanizing view of women” box…i’m really glad he’s a middle-schooler because this would give me a headache if it kept up in high school

Favorite episode (scene if movie): the chapter where tsuna tells reborn to shut the fuck up and live and the chapter where tsuna goes to town on bermuda are equal degrees of hype

Favorite season/movie: i’d say rainbow arc, though the scene in the shimon arc where he tells nono off to his face was juicy

Favorite line: this line isn’t from tsuna himself but “his fist clenched as if in prayer” is the most evocative line in shounen history

Favorite outfit: future arc orange and white hoodie. iconique

Unpopular opinion: tsuna would NEVER become a mafia boss unless directly forced into it by direct opposition. without a byakuran to press him tsuna could never in good conscience take on the vongola mantle or even a mantle that would buy into the culture of the mafia. saying he would isn’t directly contradicted by canon, fine, but its a shitty and bad opinion that actively makes the text of the canon worse and you should be ashamed for having it

A wish: i really wished tsuna got more development with his guardians beyond superficial “oh so and so is coming to help” stuff…even ryouhei, who is part of the Inner Circle, gets Zero major attention. amano pblease

xanxus is 17. any shipfic occurring on the same level as canon is Fucking Weird. like even the disturbed psychological milestones and the fact xanxus refuses to have an equal in anything without a fight aside (yikes), they’re at such different stages in both their life and social situation. 

Even post-canon is kind of. yknow. Around 6YL it starts getting interesting, though (esp since they wouldn’t interact if they could help it within that time)
