Training begins.

*fond roll of eyes* At this point, I think I have to be grateful almost all the time now, Lang, because you have really good timing. Even when I’m reading this almost 24 hours later, the story still warms my heart because of how funny and enjoyable it is.

Reviewing, here I go. I’m a bit more well-rested, with not so many classes today, so I can do this. Though, I’m starting to think I can only do one ramble a day now, considering my stamina when it comes to words and how writing anything seems to take something from me every time. *shrugs helplessly* I’ll try to sleep more in that case if it means giving something, because gosh, the workaholic in me wants to do more. Buuuuut I know that would just give off so many alarm bells because I’m not a robot.

*waves hands in the air* Anywho.

Training! That’s certainly one way to go about things. Half of me wants to giggle at the antics between Shinso and Kei when it comes to the trade-off between the two; the other half of me wants to just feel bad for Shinso because I’ve been in his shoes plenty of times. The number of moments that I’ve had to (1) either exercise with my exercise-junkie family, who can do a lot more than me in push-ups and so on, or (2) stick along with them for a bike ride back when I had more free time meant I was trying to hold back groans and complaining as much as Shinso is doing right now. Like, gosh, Kei, I know you’re used to ninja-standards, but bring it down a little. =-= *speaking from experience being on both ends of the problem*

On a more positive note, this chapter certainly gives a lot of background and (possibly coincidental or not, I’m not sure) foreshadowing as to how Kei became a Jounin-sensei to the Dragonlings later on in CYB! I’ve been reviewing a lot of the earlier chapters for the sake of S&S research, so to get some extra idea on how Kei conducts herself when training others is kinda sweet. Though, then again, Tomoko and Shinso are two very different people. The way Kei is patient when correcting Shinso’s posture and her trolling him all the same, it is endearing.

Any last notes… Obito! Obito, I missed you! I know it’s only been a chapter or two, but hey, resident Uchiha who didn’t get corrupted by Madara, welcome back! It’s good to see you be an oblivious doof as always to Shinso’s thought process, and to finish a run like it was nothing… pfffft. That emoji was also really cute, since I have yet to actually figure out how to do those emojis. I’m just limited to smileys and things like =-= since I don’t know much else with my keyboard. Though, seeing Kei correct Shinso on Obito being her best friend and not her boyfriend is already having me giggle a bit inside, because we both know who’s getting that title in the next few in-story years. Hee hee. But at the same time, it’s good to see the characters in their teenage years again, because it’s only these times where sillier moments can happen, at least in my opinion. Adults can still be silly and dorky of course, I mean, my dad recently bought a drone to play around with, hah, but maybe I’m just too used to being serious almost all the time. Oh well. Friends say I’m easy to tease as a result of that, but eh. I ramble, and this is working as a review, I hope.

🙂 You did good on this so far, Lang. Nothing bad to note as always, and I enjoyed the read. Keep up the good work. I’ll make sure to rest as much as I can to give more rambles when necessary. *salutes*

I’ll see you at the next update for the next ramble!

It is hard to get in shape! If exercise was easy, it’d be a lot more simple to persuade kids to actually do it. Kei is just spoiled by her ninja upbringing, since she never really got a chance to be anything but a tiny warrior. Means gym class is a cinch, though.

Poor Shinso. He’s in hell now.

And Obito likes being able to help! And his presence let me obliquely point out that the ninja-verse characters are substantially more casual with each other than Kei is with anybody in Tokyo. Even her narration doesn’t ever call Shinso by his personal name, and she hasn’t changed “-san” to “-kun” or anything.

Thanks again for your kind words!

I know you watch Steven universe, so what gem would the gang be? Also how far are you on the episodes?

cyb-by-lang:

“Gem” is likely the wrong word. I’ve been discussing this with someone, so here’s the answers we hashed out:

  • Minato: Pyrite on the back of his neck.
  • Kushina: Fire Opal where her belly button would be normally.
  • Kei: Agate on the back of her right hand. Alternately, in the center of her chest where Isobu’s seal is.
  • Obito: Snowflake obsidian in the middle of his sternum.
  • Kakashi: Mica, underside of his tongue.
  • Rin: Jade, but over her heart.

I‘ve seen maybe five episodes.

The MCU Avengers Comparison No One Asked For

cyb-by-lang:

Disclaimer: I am not saying that these characters are direct equivalents of each other. What I’m saying is that these characters have some elements in common and that comparisons are fun.

Who knows, maybe someone will get a bit of inspiration out of this?

Gai is roughly equivalent to Steve,
because both characters are selfless, optimistic, give everything their
all, and how both rose to well above the human norm through hard work
and luck–and maybe some ill-advised experimentation regarding human
limitations.

Raido started all of this, because his actual
mission callsign is “Falcon” like Sam Wilson’s. Both characters are
probably the calmest members of their respective groups, and were drawn into established these teams when shit repeatedly hit the fan. They’re out of their depths a lot, but they’re doing their best.

Kakashi
most closely maps to Natasha, since they’re in some ways the coldest
members of their teams. Kakashi is the garrote wire, is a successful
assassin, and both of them have been doing this crap for most of their
lives. They’re sorta closed-off as a result.

Obito is
Bucky. Main character’s best friend who ends up being presumed dead and
subject to some degree of attempted (or successful) brainwashing into a
minion of evil? And they both lost an arm over the course of their
return to the rest of the story.

Kei most closely maps to
Bruce, as a generally mild person who carries a lot of anger and can
turn into a giant green rage monster that can be directed only by the
host’s goodwill–which often isn’t guaranteed. Also, Kei is…she kinda
planned for the jinchuriki eventuality, while Bruce kinda turned himself
into the Hulk. (But in terms of references and general snark, Kei definitely trends closer to Tony. A Tony who could turn into a rage monster and not just engineer things to death.)

Genma ends up being roughly equivalent to Tony in terms of his relationship to Kei. Fearless snark defines much of it, combined with a mutual interest in the most systematic of shinobi disciplines–fuinjutsu. Also, Genma has been known to get near-fatally in over his head on occasion, but differently from Tony. (But let’s be honest here: Genma’s closest equivalent in terms of personality is actually Clint.)

Kushina is probably closest to Thor, who is
a bit otherworldly, stupidly powerful, and can go toe to toe with the
Hulk. Also, her knowledge is often esoteric or unusual for most of the
cast, because she is a representative of the long-lived Uzumaki clan. Magic is really more of a science to both of them.

Minato,
as a precision fighter with a tendency toward ranged attack as a first
option (which is then immediately followed up by concerted efforts at
stabbing), trends sort of toward Clint. (But is, in terms of how he tends to show up in combat, a weird combination of Vision–fuck you, physics and a mild philosophical bent–and Nick Fury in sheer command presence.)

Tsunade and Yamaguchi-sensei sort of occupy the role of Nick Fury jointly, through the power of their combined grumpiness and the fear they can instill in others under their command.

Rin, Shizune, and Yamato take up the roles of Agent Coulson and Agent Hill, I think. Plus Helen Cho.

@cyb-by-lang kei’s gemsona, black and white agate, for cyb fanweek!!

I love this! Kei’s pose is so amazing, I love how dynamic it is with the sword. Mirroring her gem for the background was a great touch.

Also, Steven Universe crossover/fusions are wonderful, so thank you so much for sharing this with us!

thanks so much :DDDD

Oooooooh man, this is so cool! I love the fact that you put her gem on her hand, and the little details like the fact that she’s wearing sandals instead of other Gem shoes.
