Character Analysis: Dreaming of Sunshine, Team Seven (2015-10-21)

jacksgreysays:

A/N1: Because Chapter 105 reminded me about just how wonderfully ruthless and cunning Shikako really is, and I’m always a sucker for the categorization of things. As for the title–I’m not promising that I will do the other teams/characters, but I’m also not saying that I won’t.

On the TVTropes page, the members of Team Seven have already been labelled into their respective roles within the Freudian Trio / Four-Temperament Ensemble / Five-Man Band (don’t worry about the numbers, it will all make sense later). Which, for the most part, I agree with (my problem has more to do with how the website defines the roles than the allocation of them, but with TVTropes you really do have to read everything with a grain of salt).

However, I wanted to add some of my own analysis and labeling because, well, my brain thinks it’s fun. And maybe some of my fellow DoS fans will get some enjoyment out of reading this.

Here are the members of Team Seven and their respective allocations. The normal font is from the TVTropes site while the bolded and italicized are my own additions/adjustments.

I’m rereading DOS and I feel really, really bad for Kakashi. It’s like he has to rush to the hospital every time he gets back from a mission :’D Way to stroke that PTSD and depression. But it’s really sweet(and tragic) that he’s always one of the first people she see’s when she’s in hospital. Those two need to have some time together that doesn’t involve death or pointy objects. They could… chat about icha icha?

Kakashi never gets an easy time of it. Poor thing. He tries his hardest, but by this point in his life I think he’s very used to failure (at least in particular ways) and his team really don’t make things easy on him.

[that doesn’t involve death or pointy objects] is a lot to ask of ninja really, isn’t it?

Can I ask what Kakashi’s thoughts on his students are now and what they were starting out?

dosbysilverqueen:

Now that’s a complicated one. Both the question and Kakashi’s thoughts…

I think he did want to take on Team 7. Maybe wasn’t so convinced it was a good idea or that he knew how to teach them, but he has connections to Naruto and Sasuke.

I don’t think he expected to really care for them as much as he grew to. Really care, as people, not just as comrades he won’t let die. And of course, I don’t think he expected how much trouble they would get into and how often he would worry about them. Kakashi is a person who has lost a lot of people – not being there, being too late, making mistakes… – and I think he’s pretty desperate to not lose any more.

So i just went through the entire blog till the very first page(love this story) and i was wondering about your describe-Kei-in-one-word post. Kakashi called Kei: anchor. Wasn’t Minato his anchor? Like that’s a pretty big thing to call Kei. And how is Kei his anchor? And what’s Minato to him then? If you don’t mind me asking. Kakashi’s mindset is very hard to understand.

cyb-by-lang:

Minato occupies the slot called “Parent” or “Older Brother Figure” or “Mentor.” Or rather, all three.

The reason Kei is Kakashi’s “Anchor” is because the term can be used two ways. Both as a point of stability–what with Obito having vanished after Kannabi and Rin not actually being on their team–and as an occasional dead weight that might be considered holding him back. Such is love.

I know you watch Steven universe, so what gem would the gang be? Also how far are you on the episodes?

cyb-by-lang:

“Gem” is likely the wrong word. I’ve been discussing this with someone, so here’s the answers we hashed out:

  • Minato: Pyrite on the back of his neck.
  • Kushina: Fire Opal where her belly button would be normally.
  • Kei: Agate on the back of her right hand. Alternately, in the center of her chest where Isobu’s seal is.
  • Obito: Snowflake obsidian in the middle of his sternum.
  • Kakashi: Mica, underside of his tongue.
  • Rin: Jade, but over her heart.

I‘ve seen maybe five episodes.
