This could be the international flag of planet Earth

Designed by Oskar Pernefeldt, this proposal for a flag that represents our entire planet could have a future on Mars.

Centered in the flag, seven rings form a flower – a symbol of the life on Earth. The rings are linked to each other, which represents how everything on our planet, directly or indirectly, are linked. The blue field represents water which is essential for life – also as the oceans cover most of our planet’s surface. The flower’s outer rings form a circle which could be seen as a symbol of Earth as a planet and the blue surface could represent the universe.

thought it reminded me of somethin then i remembered

No one has walked on the moon in my lifetime,” I told them. “Yet you try to tell me that it’s my generation who has lost their wonder? That it’s the young people of today who have let everything slip and fall into ruin? You don’t understand. You had the dream and the potential and the opportunities, and you messed it all up. You got hope and moon landings and that bright, glorious future. I got only the disasters.

GUYS

holy sh*t

what. WHAT

Kapoor: *Being a jerk and not sharing*

Semple: “So I just got a degree in nanotechnology specifically for this and anyway everyone have some paint”

Semple: a God amongst Men

Ok NOW things are getting interesting.

I am guessing Semple has created a new black PIGMENT that is close to the effect of super black. Vantablack is not pigment, and cannot be used in paint. This actually changes the game.

Kapoor may have the rights to the real blackest black, but Semple may have made a super black artists can actually use.

i can’t believe a meme is going down in art history

#Why is art like this? #Because art is the way each generation of humanity distills itself to an essence for the future to behold #And our essence is a combination of exceptional and perhaps unbelievable technical skill #And just #Just absolute nuclear fires powered by spite #And I am so glad to be participating in this #Because this is I think #The first time I’ve ever actually understood art #So thank you to Anish Kapoor for being spiteful #And thank you to Stuart Semple for being brilliant in a fuck you kind of way #And thank you to everyone involved in this fiasco #Because I have never felt a more complete understanding of the necessity of art in my life #And I’m so fucking glad

Meet Betsy DeVos, Trump’s pick for Secretary of Education. She funds an institute that wants to bring back child labor and get rid of public education.

Betsy DeVos is from my area (West Michigan) and let me tell you: she comes from not one, but two of the most corrupt, entitled, extreme conservative families in the area.

Something else, that I feel like people really should be aware of is that our state government (led, of course, by Rick Snyder of the ongoing Flint Water Crisis) just stated that literacy is not a right.

Yeah.  Literacy is not a right.

What happened is that some students in Detroit tried to sue the state because they have been denied access to literacy (through disinvestment and indifference to Detroit’s public schools).  And the official response is that state legislation only requires that there be a system of free public schools.  So yeah, there are schools.  Schools without money or resources.  But they’re there, and literacy is not a right (apparently).

Meanwhile, Betsy DeVos is a huge supporter of charter schools.  Which means that she’s strongly anti-public school.  She never went to public school, nor did any of her children.

Also: the DeVos family contributed over $9 million to the Tr*mp campaign.

How is this the real world

How are we living in a world where wretched worthless gutter trash like this vile piece of TRASH are allowed to hold ANY form of position in government

She literally thinks child slave labour is an amazing idea

That’s not a thing a normal person thinks, that’s the viewpoint of a villain in a movie where the hero is a dog

“THAT’S THE VIEWPOINT OF A VILLAIN IN A MOVIE WHERE THE HERO IS A DOG”

This is a phrase I’m going to come back to a lot in 2017.

This is your occasional reminder that my grandfather was a ‘picker’ in a coal mine and joined the Navy in order to get our family out of the mines. My great-grandfather was a coal miner and a farmer.

This isn’t a life anyone should want for their family, and it’s infuriating to hear this. It makes me want to scream in her face. My grandfather’s heart gave out far too early due to the things he had to do at too young an age. (That’s not my opinion, that’s the opinion of his doctors.)

So.
Yeah.

Call things what they are. By using the language of your oppressors, you are being complicit in your own oppression. Do not normalize this. This is not normal, and we sure as fuck shouldn’t sanitize it.

I’m not a professional historian, but my teacher had a special interest in WWII and what led up to it. And this? This is exactly how the Nazi regime started. They normalized it, edged a bit further, that got normalized too, and by the time major shit was going down, it was too fucking late.

We need to make sure it’s not too fucking late this time. “Never again” needs to mean something.

Ruby Bridges was the first black child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960.

This movie made me cry, I was so heart broken by how Ruby Bridges was treated! She was only 6, but was so strong. She is a very brave girl and she did not care what the white folks called her.

People are simply disgusting to minimize people by skin color!

Ruby you might not think you’re a hero… But to other people you are! You are A HERO and you are A PERSON WHO MADE AMERICA CHANGE!

this is white culture, this is their history, this is their legacy…being enraged at a damn baby just because she’s black.

she’s still alive by the way

Ruby Bridges in 2010

“As Bridges describes it, “Driving up I could see the crowd, but living in New Orleans, I actually thought it was Mardi Gras. There was a large crowd of people outside of the school. They were throwing things and shouting, and that sort of goes on in New Orleans at Mardi Gras.“ Former United States Deputy Marshal Charles Burks later recalled, “She showed a lot of courage. She never cried. She didn’t whimper. She just marched along like a little soldier, and we’re all very very proud of her.“

U.S. Marshals escorted Bridges to and from school

As soon as Bridges entered the school, white parents pulled their own children out; all the teachers refused to teach while a black child was enrolled. Only one person agreed to teach Ruby and that was Barbara Henry, from Boston, Massachusetts, and for over a year Henry taught her alone, “as if she were teaching a whole class.”

Every morning, as Bridges walked to school, one woman would threaten to poison her; because of this, the U.S. Marshals dispatched by President Eisenhower, who were overseeing her safety, allowed Ruby to eat only the food that she brought from home.

Another woman at the school put a black baby doll in a wooden coffin and protested with it outside the school, a sight that Bridges Hall has said “scared me more than the nasty things people screamed at us.” At her mother’s suggestion, Bridges began to pray on the way to school, which she found provided protection from the comments yelled at her on the daily walks.”

THIS SHIT WAS ONLY 58 YEARS AGO. PEOPLE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS RACIST TERRORISM AND ACTS LIKE IT ARE STILL ALIVE, AND THEIR KIDS ARE IN THEIR 40′S AND 50′S.

DON’T LET RACISM APOLOGISTS GET AWAY WITH “WHY ARE YOU LIVING IN THE PAST,” BULLSHIT ARGUMENTS. WE ARE LITERALLY STILL DEALING WITH THE FAMILIES THAT FORMED HATE MOBS OVER BLACK CHILDREN ATTENDING SCHOOL WITH WHITE KIDS.

This was her then:

This is literally how she looks in 2017.

She’s literally not even  old.

Some of those people in that crowd are VOTING this year. Their children raised by them are voting this year.  And they want to Make America Great Again.

VOTE.
