That scene in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
That scene where Ron and Hermione have to go to the Prefect compartment and Harry is like, “Okay, I’ll sit with Neville and Luna.” Only Neville’s chasing his toad and Luna’s just being Luna and it’s so hilariously awkward and then these popular girls come in and are like, “Harry, come on, you don’t have to sit with them.” And Harry’s just like, “Fuck you, these guys are my friends.” And he stares them down until they back out.
*Slaps you on the shoulder, leaning against you, staring off into the distance, a fond smile on my face, nodding along slightly as I speak*
God, what a—what a fantastic day to remember that Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley were both strong advocates for people’s rights and spent their lives fighting for freedom and autonomy and would never, under any circumstances, use a love potion on their significant others or explore Fred and George’s stash of love potions with mischievous smirks!
I can’t even be mad at the endless fanfictions (just kidding, I so can) because the movies and even the literal books want us to believe that these two would be fine with love potions existing. It’s one of the most out-of-character moments in the entire series, for both the books and the movies, and I cannot believe that Jo thought it was A.) Okay. B.) A thing they’d be cool with.
(This post was initially the first paragraph to go along with the whole ‘fondly remembering’ aesthetic but aesthetic be damned HERMIONE AND GINNY WOULD NOT BE OKAY WITH RAPE!)
I just saw a post saying that maybe there was a part of Bellatrix that cared for Sirius since, instead of using Avada Kedavra, she used a red curse during the fatal battle, which the OP attributed to Expelliarmus. And I didn’t have the heart to tell the OP that Bellatrix Black Lestrange most likely was using the Cruciatus Curse, her personal favorite, and that she wanted to torture her cousin before killing him.
I’m thinking about how to bring in some mentions of Hermione Granger in FDitH and it is… just… so funny to me to think about the wild extremes of Hermione Granger. Like, “Oh, yeah, she once set a teacher on fire during a Quidditch match, caught a journalist in a jar and blackmailed her for being an illegal Animagus, and helped me run a secret Defense club against the express wishes of the Ministry and when we were caught tricked that Ministry official into pissing off a bunch of centaurs. She loved rules, though. Just… y’know… the ones she liked and weren’t in her way during our many near-death experiences.”
I mean the jokes of Professor McGonagall screaming and//or retiring ‘today’ September 1st, 2015) because she sees that a boy is named James Sirius Potter are funny and all but…
Are you telling me that Professor Minerva BAMF McGonagall wouldn’t already know what the name of Harry Potter’s first child?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t essentially be the godmother of Harry’s first child?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t be in St. Mungo’s on the day that he’s born and is one of the first ones to hold him?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t transform into a cat and wrap herself around this baby, not even flinching when the baby grabs tufts of fur or drools all over her head?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t stop over every Sunday for brunch with Harry, Ginny, and James II?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t bring a ton of sweets and small toys for a delighted James II?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t buy James II his first broomstick, just as she had done with his father?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t babysit James II and tell him all sorts of stories about how much trouble his father and grandfather got into?
Are you telling me that Professor McGonagall wouldn’t be in this child’s life as if she was his godmother/grandmother because she never did have a chance to raise Harry (it was one of her greatest regrets) but she’ll be damned if she’s going to miss out on raising this child (As well as Albus and Lily)?
Because if you’re telling me all of this then I’m not listening!
Here are several names that I think Harry should have gone with:
Regulus
Rubeus (Or Ruby for a girl’s name.)
Severus
Sirius
And possibly Alastor (Allie for a girl’s name?)
Why these names in particular?
Because their legacies need to carry on.
And Harry should be the one to make it so.
James and Lily were huge in the wizarding world, especially in Godric’s Hollow. Not only is there a tombstone, their house is preserved, and there’s a giant monument of them in the middle of the town.
Their legacy isn’t going to be forgotten for a while.
In fact, I’m willing to bet that someone somewhere named their kids after them.
And Albus’ legacy will definitely carry on. And he didn’t deserve the namesake anyway I mean really Harry naming your kid after the guy who left you at an abusive household and sent you on all of these missions unprepared?
Also, Luna is still alive. Why did Harry make his daughter’s middle name Luna?
Regulus, on the other hand, is not still alive and there are only a few people in the world who know about his true story. And of those people, Harry is probably the best one to give his child the namesake.
And just imagine Sirius jumping around in the afterlife, all ecstatic because his little brother’s legacy is going to carry on.
Okay, onto Rubeus.
I mean, I know that Hagrid’s not dead and I know that there are plenty of people who know him but as far as carrying on his legacy, I think Harry should do it
Severus for the same reasons as Regulus. Again, it feels right that Harry is the one who’s helping carry on his legacy. (And for God’s sake, don’t post any hate on this. If you disagree, silently move on.)
Sirius because, again, I can’t think of anyone else who would name their kid Sirius.
And Alastor because Moody was a BAMF. But again, I put him in the ‘maybe’ category because he was a war hero and a lot of people did know him.
Again, the point is to pick people who were amazing, who have some connection to Harry, and who not many (or no) people would name their kids after.
And I know what you’re going to say.
“What about Remus’ legacy?”
Teddy gets Remus. And Tonks. He can name his children after his parents.
“What about Fred!?”
What about him? George already named his son Fred. And yeah, I really think that he’s the one who gets to carry on that legacy, don’t you?
So yeah, in conclusion, I still see the “Albus Severus!?” posts all the time and I just want to remind people of names that really should be names of Harry’s kids because their legacies need to carry on.
