TBH, we can’t wait for the inevitable day that @vitoriabas teams up with J.K. Rowling herself to illustrate the forthcoming edition of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Hashtag-Ban (IT’s A FIRST DRAFT, OKAY?). But until then, we get to keep soaking up her brilliant HP imaginings. Today, as a balm for your finals-addled brains, we present an array of the unsung heroes of the Potterverse—click here to see all 20!!!
okay so an interesting thing about HP books vs movies is, mcgonagall’s supposedly born in 1935, which makes her only 56 when the series starts in 1991. harry’s first impression of her is that she’s a dark-haired witch: she hasn’t even started to go gray. considering that dumbledore isn’t considered particularly ancient in his 120′s, professor mcgonagall is really only just hitting middle age.
i definitely wonder what if general fandom perception of her character would focus more on her snark and fire and less on her stern reserve if she looked, in the movies, less like this
Newly released photos of Paul Thornley as Ron, Noma Dumezweni as Hermione and Cherrelle Skeete as Rose from the upcoming play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Say what you will about how Harry Potter increases in complexity and darkness as it progresses but I think JKR sets the tone of the series pretty well when she has Dumbledore play ding-dong-ditch with a baby in the first chapter
Book one: 11 year old kids almost die several times before one murders a teacher in self defense
Book two: A sentient being is abused and forced to hurt themself for trying to protect a child from harm, seventeen year old magic Hitler invades the mind of an eleven year old girl, emotionally abuses and mentally assaults her until she commits acts of terror and attempts to murder other children for him, he then tries to kill her and two twelve year old’s
Book three: A man is wrongly imprisoned and tortured to the point of near insanity for twelve years, a group of prison guards that tear aware all light and happiness before ripping people’s souls out are let loose on a school full of children
Book four: Four teenagers participate in special wizard Olympics which where previously outlawed due to the high mortality rate among participants, a man suffering from PTSD is assaulted and locked in a box for several months, several people are stripped of their free will, several people are brutally tortured, a teenager is murdered in cold blood, his fourteen year old friend has to hold his lifeless body close in order to bring it back to safety
Book five: Several high ranking government officials collude to assassinate the character of a fifteen year old boy who has just been through a traumatic experience, a deranged psychopath emotionally and mentally abuses the same fifteen year old to the point where he starts questioning reality, a man is murdered for trying to protect his godson a high ranking government official forces children who question her and her propaganda to harm themselves so severely the cuts almost reach their bones and permanently scar
The darkness didn’t increase from book to book it just got more complex

They literally starved him in the second book before Ron came to rescue him. I found that pretty horrifying. It went on for days IIRC. And they weren’t feeding him much to begin with, which is why he was so skinny and short.

Dumbledore didn’t even ring the doorbell/knock. He just dropped a bundle of blankets with a baby and a note inside on the Dursleys’ doorstep. For all he knew they could have been on holiday, only to come back days later to a baby who died of exposure/starvation/dehydration/etc. on their front porch. It was McGonagall who did the due diligence by spying on the house all day, thus ensuring the family was in fact at home. If anything, J.K. Rowling instigated the dark themes of the series by having Dumbledore be Harry’s mentor instead of the amazing Minerva McG #McGonagall for guardian of the year #Dumbledore should never have been trusted with the responsibility of caring for children
“Hermione took out a list of subjects and titles she had decided to search while Ron strode off down a row of books and started pulling them off the shelves at random. Harry wandered over to the Restricted Section.”
Okay but this is legit a summary of how the trio works: Hermione is methodical and organised, Ron is “fuck this I’m winging it #yolo”, and Harry looks for something illegal to do.
Because I can’t get the AU where Sirius adopts Harry after Prisoner of Azkaban out of my head. (Agh I am so anxious about posting any HP art because HP artists are SO GOOD it’s like throwing pebbles at a mountain and going “look I’m contributing!”)
And here they are actually HAVING breakfast. oh god the shading is so sloppy I’m sorry I hate coloring so mu hu huch:
YAY

“Pretty sure I’m a criminal, Harry.” Sirius Black, ladies and gentlemen.
