We got attacked by the Shape Shifter. He broke out of his cage, pretended to be The Author, and wants Dipper’s journal.Imagine if he escapes to the town! He can transform into anything! We could never trust anyone ever again!
Somebody who has never watched Gravity Falls caption this with what’s happening in this picture
DnD party, just killed a monster for the loot. Tall girl distracted monster and got hurt, small girls killed it and are soaked in its rainbow blood, and the chaotic neutral Orc is trying to grab all the loot for himself while the paladin glares at him from across the table. The DM is hopelessly confused.
I always forget to draw Ford’s dumb shoulder thing. Who is he trying to impress? He keeps his gun on his hip, what’s the shoulder strap even for? I bet he just thinks it looks cool and he wanted to keep it because he had to ditch the rest of his dimension traveler aesthetic.
EXCUSE YOU, I LOVE FORD’S SHOULDER STRAP THING!
In fact I love it in part BECAUSE I deeply suspect he just thinks it looks cool and he wanted that remnant of his Dimension Traveler Aesthetic. Because… YES? It DOES look cool, F I G H T M E. It’s VERY SWASHBUCKLEY.
I never forget to draw it. It… just so happens that I have very seldom drawn Ford’s outfit from the era when he wears it. (But I don’t forget it when drawing his Portal outfit, which I’ve drawn more often.)
Also, I just want to point this out:
(very important screenshots of Stanford Pines)
Yes, in DD&MD we see that Ford draw his blaster from a holster on his left hip, while the baldric strap goes down to his right hip. He keeps this weird inverted-triangle blaster in the left hip holster.
BUT. Have we all forgotten that in Weirdmageddon Part. 3, we saw that he has another holster?
It’s for a DIFFERENT blaster (because that is also not the magnet gun from DAMVTF), and it’s in a holster-strap that sits right around where the baldric ends. The implication is that that gun/holster is being held up by the baldric.
Listen, I don’t know how it works with guns. I just know how it works with swords. Yes, you can wear a sword’s scabbard hanging from a belt, but frankly, swords are heavy, and even when you have generous hips, the sword’s weight drags the belt down on that side. It’s uncomfortable and doesn’t work that great. Whereas, a baldric suspends the sword’s weight from your shoulder, which is much easier on your body and allows you to walk around more easily. I get that this is a matter of preference for some folks, and some tall men are fine with wearing a scabbard on a belt. But I never liked it, and used a baldric.
My conclusion would be that the blaster from Wp3 is heavy enough that it doesn’t sit well in a belt holster, and that’s why Ford wears a baldric for it.
Was he always wearing that gun and we just never saw him using it before? Or is he just always wearing the baldric and holster for it, in case he wants to add the gun? Who knows?
This is amazing but as someone with a few holsters I can tell you (probably) that a shoulder strap like that is a completely aesthetic choice unless he has something across his back. The gun at his hip should be secured with one or two straps around his thigh, securing a handgun with a shoulder strap really doesn’t make any sense (handguns are designed to be light and convenient for close® combat, if it’s going to be heavy enough for a baldric (a word I learned today, thanks!) you might as well be a rifle. It’s more or less the different between carrying a hunting knife and broadsword, I guess, to the best of my knowledge).
He’s either hiding something else back there or he wanted a Look™
Okay, that is a good addition! Also: omg what I wouldn’t have given for Ford to have had that holster-securing strap around the thigh as part of his look???? hnnnnngh
Meanwhile, @infriga‘s tags: I would also completely accept “hey, I could totally LARP in that!” As I said, I accept the “it just LOOKS COOL” hypothesis, and love him for it.
(Although, Back in Ford’s Day, there wasn’t any FCLORPing, so it would have been more like, “hey, I could totally use that for a con costume! / to wear to DD&MD sessions!”) (I already covered the question of what if Ford was involved in the SCA in college, here.)
OH NO MY HEART… but i love this idea. and maybe while Stan still has amnesia, the daemon’s form is shifting again, and it’s very jarring for everyone. But once his memories start coming back, she settles back into the seagull form.
