And just like that the danger is past, and a roomful of eyes stare and stare and don’t look away. If anyone speaks then Izuku can’t hear it past the cotton wool in his ears and the high-pitched whining tone echoing in his brain. He pumps the brakes on his roaring panic, because homeroom is only ten minutes and he needs time. But it’s just like Sachi’s car, that mangled steel corpse left to rust on the beach—the lines are cut and Izuku is going to crash.

I’m a big fan of FMA. A lot of people are. And I read once, I think on some Tumblr post that’s been lost to the ages, that one of the many good things FMA did was refuse to forget about deceased characters. Characters that die stick with those that survive; Hughes for Mustang, Nina and Alexander for Ed and Al, and so on. They aren’t constantly on the characters’ minds, but every now and then they’re reminded of what they’ve lost, what they failed to save.

I wanted to capture that for YUTS Izuku, especially since death is such an integral part of his life. He’s full of stories, most of which he keeps locked in a box under his bed so he doesn’t forget the people he meets, the people he helps, the people who weren’t saved. He doesn’t stop thinking about them just because they happen to leave.

The most satisfying part about reading YUTS is that I literally sit there and imagine Bakugou (temporarily) gaining the ability to see Rei, and screaming “WTF DEKU THAT THING’S BEEN THERE THE WHOLE TIME?!” and then cue Rei tormenting Bakugou invisibly, and Bakugou trying REALLY hard to keep acting cool even though he’s imagining Rei’s demon face over his shoulder.

I remember you saying that yuts!Izuku’s daemon would be a corvid and that if he someone used soul seeing on him they’d find a lot of fractures and ever since I can’t but imagine his daemon seeming constantly banged up and having much less restrain in terms of snark which only adds to everyone’s concerns. Can I ask what do you think would be the daemons for Aizawa and the rest of the main four (or anyone you want to add really) in this AU?

Yeah, YUTS!Izuku’s daemon would be pretty roughed up, I think.

As for the rest of the cast, I posted a list of what I thought everyone’s daemons would be–going by canon, not YUTS, which is why Izuku’s listed as a wolf instead of a corvid.

for the whole daemons in yuts, i would assume ghosts keep their daemons so: what’s rei’s daemon??? what about hino? and nana?? i love this au of an au

Going by His Dark Materials canon, actually, ghosts do not keep their daemons. But that’s not important because i haven’t given it much thought, and I kind of don’t want to.

But! As for the daemons of people who are now ghosts:

Rei died as a child, before her daemon would have settled. But in a hypothetical YUTSwap daemon AU, they would have settled as a fox.

Hino’s daemon would beeee… either some kind of corvid or some kind of mustelid, like a weasel.

And Nana’s would be a bird of prey. Maybe a kestrel.

Had a half a thought: End**vor might pitch a fit if Todoroki ended up on some kids YouTube channel, so Deku takes precautions. Every time Shouto is in the shot, he’s terribly edited out, pixelated, or some other ridiculous thing.

By Shouto’s request he never shows up on camera, but sometimes in the Buzzfeed-Unsolved-esque sequence where it’s just them talking over a black screen, he’ll pitch in on the conversation with his own dry remarks.
