The Vicious Cycle Of Simkjrs

micronecro:

One of my favourite parts about Simkjrs’ MHA fics is probably how every iteration of Izuku will always follow a pattern, whether it’s the vigilante AU, runaway AU, villain AU, or villain AU but with funnies. I like to call this pattern the “vicious cycle of Simkjrs”, or in layman’s terms, “trauma be like that sometimes”.

(Contains a low simmer of spoilers for Simkjrs’ fics, obviously.)

It goes a little like this:

please speak to me about silvertongue izuku… i’m a slut for deku AUs

Oh, wow. Okay. That’s a pretty graphic image lol.

Ask and ye shall receive!

Additional quirk mechanics:

  • Silvertongue is an emitter-type quirk. Aizawa can erase it.
  • Pronunciation is the key. If he doesn’t properly pronounce words, nothing will happen. Speaking with a lisp or with his mouth filled with food will not make his quirk work.
  • He can’t pause in between sentences for more than a second (only enough to catch his breath in case of long tangents), because nothing will also happen.
  • While tripping over his words will not activate his quirk, stuttering won’t stop his quirk from working as long as he manages to completely pronounce the word. (e.g. Saying “Smaug will evishe- eviscerate you.” does nothing. Saying “Smaug will e-eviscerate you” is still valid.)
  • His current limit is being able to read out loud continuously for a minute. If he wants to read again after reaching the limit, he has to take a 10-second pause because once he passes the 1-minute mark, he tires out his jaw muscles and voice/throat (how tired a person is from talking is doubled when his quirk is active). This is another reason why he is a manic mumbler; he crams a lot of words in under a minute.
  • If you knock Izuku out, whatever he summoned disappears. He’s actually vulnerable by himself, so he pushes his body when training to be fit enough to run or dodge, and won’t be a sitting duck. He does not become muscly and truly athletic until All Might makes him pick up trash at Dagobah.
  • Whatever Izuku summons is merely a shade of what is written (i.e. they’re nerfed and/or are less powerful versions). For example, Poseidon can’t do god-like feats (like split the sea in half), but he’s still pretty strong due to his abilities (like creating whirlpools, just not tsunami levels of whirlpools). Or he could read out about a world-ending meteor shower and he’ll get a less destructive, less powerful one.
  • To voluntarily disperse whatever he summoned, Izuku must either re-read or recite the passage word-for-word, or write and subsequently read something that would make them disappear (e.g. “After destroying everything, Smaug disappears in a wave of thick smoke, returning to the mountain whence it came.”)

(More under the cut.)

another quirk!izuku idea

kill-it-with-an-x-burner:

You know what quirk would fit izuku well?

Literary materialization, like the Silvertongues from Inkheart.

This quirk enables Izuku’s intelligence to shine more with having a broader amount of knowledge due to being well-read. (He’ll be an even bigger nerd because not only will he be a hero otaku, he will also be a literary otaku.)

Mechanics:

  • Silvertongue (quirk name) is a passive ability. Izuku can’t turn it off. It automatically activates when he reads something out loud.
  • It’s limited to fiction. He can’t read out things such as “All Might miraculously comes and saves the day” or “Cleopatra rises from the dead” because they’re essentially non-fictional people. Fictional stories about real people (e.g. Magical Girl!Midnight) are also not affected by Izuku’s quirk.
  • It doesn’t have to be a book: video game dialogue, movie/play scripts, amateur creative writing, etc… can be affected by his quirk as well.
  • He can read out something he wrote himself, but only if he copied it off a book or to add something to the book’s story (e.g. He summoned Smaug, he then writes that the dragon will breathe fire to his enemies). It doesn’t have to be on the book itself; it could be a separate paper or even his own skin.
  • The faster he reads the words, the faster it will materialize. The sheer speed of his muttering is a by-product of honing his quirk. (Also, I bet people will be even more creeped out because he’d be a more manic mumbler compared to canon.)
  • If he erases/smudges/damages the words or where the words are written, whatever it was that he read out would instantly stop/be gone. He also can’t materialize what he read if he doesn’t understand the words. (A good way of covering this weakness is to learn other languages).
  • Overusing his quirk leads to being unable to speak (could be a numb tongue, a hoarse throat, or temporary muteness).

I imagine Izuku would never go anywhere without a pen with washable/disappearing ink and a book or a notebook filled with lines he copied off from a story.

Heck, his arms, legs, and torso could be covered in words or papers with words on them. For sentences that he uses frequently, they could be written on his costume or he can have them permanently tattooed, leaving the rest of his body free to write on.

whys shinsou gotta be one of those assholes that wont take a fucking compliment just take the fucking compliment you oversized eggplant

headcanon time: he isn’t used to take compliments because of the implications that he was always given ones that were backhanded. (in the flashbacks, he was treated with caution as his classmates give him compliments.)
