Before I started reading BNHA, I thought I was gonna like Bakugo for sure cuz everyone just ~loves~ him. But now that I actually know what a piece of shit he is – yeah, he is definitely not just “troubled”, he is a spoiled, self-entitled, arrogant jerk – I am just baffled and disgusted by how much the fandom – and Horikoshi-sensei himself, too, I guess – just glorifies this bully. And don’t get me started on that ship… why so many people want to romanticize an abusive relationship is beyond me. Really, you gotta not give a crap about Midoriya if you want him to be together with his #1 hater, blegh. Anyone who actually cares about Izuku would want him to be with someone who he does not have a decade-long history of physical and mental abuse with. Which means pretty much anyone but Bakugo. >.<

I just don’t appreciate Bakugou as a character or as a person. He really doesn’t add anything to the story that isn’t already being added to it by other characters. He’s getting a half-assed redemption arc and is never gonna apologize to Deku. It really sucks that someone who is so unapologetically and purposefully hurtful and rude to everyone for no reason is so popular, especially with the amount of people that love and/or relate to Deku. I really hope Deku gets the chance to just, yell at the top of his lungs and kick the shit out of Bakugou before they have to be forced to make up by Horikoshi.

I honestly don’t see his character development at all though? Like he went from “Deku, kill yourself or I’ll kill you” to “Deku I’ll kill you and I’m also sad so I wanna kill you harder.” Like I get character development can be a negative growth but tbh it doesn’t even sound like growth to me. Bakugou’s been a non stop asshole to Deku since they met as children, and he still like? Hasn’t stopped? Even after Bakugou found out All Might and Deku’s secret (tbh Bakugou doesn’t even deserve to know that!! Iida deserves to know! Ochako deserves to know! Todoroki deserves to know! [Especially Todoroki like damn they’re disciples to the Number 1 and Number 2 heroes like they deserve to know and grow into those positions as friends and not rivals, they deserve to be better friends than All Might and Endeavor ever could be.] Bakugou has done nothing worthy to Deku to know something so important!!) I really wish he wasn’t one of the five main kids in Deku’s “squad,” so many kids in 1-A deserve more attention and actual growth. Hell, kids in 1-B and Shinsou deserve more focus and growth.
My hatred for bakugo just keeps growing with every thing he does or says. It also srsly pisses me off that the description at the beginning of each volume says “katsuki bakugo. Midoriya’s childhood friend”
Bitch, where??? He literally spent ten years of their lives, bullying Izuku because apparently, that’s what you deserve for being quirkless but daring to show sympathy to someone who does have a quirk.
Oh my God, fucking tell me about it! It’s not even like his behavior is portrayed as particularly problematic by Hoikoshiki-sensei himself. Like, no matter what the fuck he does, everyone forgives him or is okay with it. And OF COURSE, that leads to the fandom, condoning his behavior, too! It irritates and disgusts me so much. I hate bakugo and will never get all those bakugo wankers

I finally actually read all available chapters of BNHA. And now I have to vent a bit…
I love this manga, I really do (I wouldn’t have made this blog if I didn’t). In fact I only have one – but major – problem with it and that’s that shitstain called bakugo. I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that even though this character’s introduction shows his four-year-old self, beating the crap out of our protagonist, he still gets to be a main character. Bullies usually get vilified – as it should be – but for some reason, this bully gets glorified by Horikoshi-sensei, the fandom and – worst of all – even his #1 victim, Izuku. (Also; funny how the fandom seems to collectively hate Mineta but then turns around and kisses bakugo’s ass even though he is comparatively so much worse.) It’s utterly appalling. And I will never be okay with this character or this kind of writing for a character. Just “yikes”.
Other than that… I actually like most characters but
I love Shouto and Izuku to death. And I also like Chisaki, I guess… cuz he intrigues me and lbr, his design looks great.
LITERALLY my biggest gripe with reading BNHA is why Izuku cares so much about Bakugou TO THE POINT WHERE HE WILL BREAK HIS BODY FOR HIM when Bakugou has shown countless times how much he doesn’t care about Izuku and how Horikoshi is just trying to force a friendship between them under the assumption that both of them have issues when it’s really ONE of them. And Bakugou is also like…continually praised for his feats and achievements yet his past actions has never been brought up??
And also why is Bakugou now one of the few who knows about Izuku’s secret?? Over someone like Ochako and Iida or even Todoroki???
Sometimes I see fanart of AUs in which Izuku had an actual childhood friend … and it makes me sad cuz when I think about it, he never had a real friend before he met Iida and Uraraka. The only one who is credited as his “childhood friend” is the guy who, you know, has an explosion quirk and led the gang of bullies that abused Izuku for at least ten years of his life… -.-
For real though like imagine if he had a proper rival that was friends with him and encouraged healthy, friendly competition, pushing each other to grow and get better. Even if this hypothetical friend had some issues, but like… well-written ones that don’t make them irredeemable like bakugo… that’d be fine and interesting to see them work through.
Instead, we get bakugo, the static character that routinely insults and attacks Izuku and anyone nice to him, and is never called out by the others for it, never treated by the narrative like it’s a bad thing, never faces any consequences, and the fandom adores him and apparently they read fanfic and consider it canon, bc they claim he has grown as a character, but like… growth means change. He hasn’t changed since chapter/episode fucking one.
The social worker knew that already and totally set this up on purpose 🙂
I know I said this was gonna be a slow thing, and it still will be, but I had a day off and I just really wanted to properly introduce Soichi because I love her.
