i don’t fucking understand bakudeku like,, at all?? bakugo literally bullied deku since childhood and nothing can reverse that. i love bakugo as a character but even after all his development in the manga, he is still in no place to ever be in a close relationship with deku, be it platonic or romantic.
even all might acknowledges that, after their fight, izuku and katsuki can finally be proper rivals. they’re finally on equal footing and can both push themselves to be the number one hero. throughout their entire lives, katsuki has always looked down on izuku and izuku has always seen katsuki as above him. yes, this dynamic changes in the manga. but katsuki still sees deku as a rival; someone who triggers his aggression and represents everything he strives to overcome. this is in no way close to friendship.
and i’m not mentioning the abuse katsuki put izuku through because people will just cite the deku vs kacchan fight and how their relationship has changed, which i agree with as a bakugo sympathizer.
tl;dr: bakudeku is unhealthy and borderline abusive. feel free to unfollow if you disagree.
When you want to see some quality posts about best boy deku but all you see is people shipping him with the person who has physically and mentally abused him his entire life and has been nothing but a piece of shit to him
okay but it’s okay for me not to like the character who in his opening scene tells someone to kill themself, right? because sometimes i feel like anyone who slightly suggests ba//kugo isn’t actually all that and despite his struggles is still a bully gets ripped to pieces by the fandom but like ?? to me at least he reeks of entitlement and i don’t think there’s an excuse to take your anger out on other people in the way he does. don’t get me wrong i’d love to see him growing and channelling his anger in a healthy way in canon and some of his new friendships built on equal footing rather than hero worship (as his childhood friends were) are so interesting and i feel in the end will be what truly helps him, but as the power driven entitled bully he is now i just can’t like him and i don’t understand how he beat de//ku in the popularity pole at all.
Bakugou is literally one of the worst written characters I’ve seen. He’s actually a waste of ink. I don’t, and never will, understand the desires authors have to write garbage characters like him. And the fact that the author has been trying to push a friendship between Deku and him lately is just pathetic and insulting.
I finally actually read all available chapters of BNHA. And now I have to vent a bit…
I love this manga, I really do (I wouldn’t have made this blog if I didn’t). In fact I only have one – but major – problem with it and that’s that shitstain called bakugo. I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that even though this character’s introduction shows his four-year-old self, beating the crap out of our protagonist, he still gets to be a main character. Bullies usually get vilified – as it should be – but for some reason, this bully gets glorified by Horikoshi-sensei, the fandom and – worst of all – even his #1 victim, Izuku. (Also; funny how the fandom seems to collectively hate Mineta but then turns around and kisses bakugo’s ass even though he is comparatively so much worse.) It’s utterly appalling. And I will never be okay with this character or this kind of writing for a character. Just “yikes”.
Other than that… I actually like most characters but
I love Shouto and Izuku to death. And I also like Chisaki, I guess… cuz he intrigues me and lbr, his design looks great.
These↑ are my thoughts exactly, I swear to God!!!! :O
As far as I know, there is no precedent for this (in shounen), I have never seen a bully in a shounen manga be any more than just that: a goddamn bully. But bakugo smh gets elevated to ridiculous heights by the author as well as the fandom. Even to the extent that they ship him with the precious, kind, caring and loveable Izuku… I know exactly what you mean when you say it literally makes you sick, trust me, it does the same to me. It’s disturbing as fuck >﹏<
I actually totally understand that sentiment cuz I got bullied, too. I daresay anyone who was a victim of bullying would not ship themself with their bully… or Izuku with bakugo. That’s why I keep thinking that peeps who ship them must be or have been bullies themselves ugh
The worst thing is that bakugo does not even regret or much less apologize for what he did – and keeps doing – to Izuku … he just gets worse somehow. If he ever did repent and smh atone for his decade-long abuse, then I might actually start to appreciate his character. But as things are rn, it def doesn’t look like he’ll redeem himself anytime soon… or like I’ll start liking him anytime soon…
oh my sweet summer child…. if you haven’t read the manga, let me warn you now: it’ll get worse And yes, bakugo’s arrogance is just one of the things about him that make me mad, and Izuku’s (and indirectly Horikoshi-sensei’s) glorification of bakugo is sickening indeed. blegh. But again… it’ll get worse. You just wait.
I gotta be honest, though, I do think that – theoretically – Horikoshi-sensei could still turn things around. I don’t think that bakugo is irredeemable. Yeah, he is a giant piece of trash – but he is not inhumane, he is not a monster. He is not so far gone that there is no turning back, you know? There’s a character on Stranger Things who kinda starts of as a bully (def not to the extent that bakugo is one, tho)
but over the course of the first season, he changes. He realizes he was a
jerk and he not only apologizes but also takes action to make up for his
previous bad deeds.
It’s pretty amazing actually. And if bakugo were to be given this kind of character development, I could possibly start to like or at least appreciate him. But I also seriously doubt Horikoshi-sensei is planning something like this for bakugo. I think it could be nice, though. And certainly possible, right? But hell, bakugo would have to really put in work to make me forgive his abuse of Izuku. Yeah, there’s no way Horikoshi-sensei would bother writing this kind of development for him but it’d be nice imo. >.<
Because I think that their relationship is (or definitely could be) something special. It’s been a while since I actually read BnHA but if I remember correctly,
Kirishima is the first one – or the only one – who isn’t bothered at all by bakugo’s rude nature. And he is apparently also someone who bakugo actually has a soft spot for. Kirishima is the only one he became friends with at UA. Which is something that Izuku noticed btw – that’s how he knew that Kirishima needed to be the one, extending his hand to save bakugo and it couldn’t be anyone else. I think that might’ve been the moment I started shipping them – cuz I did notice their relationship but I didn’t think too much of it until another character remarked on it. That’s what made me think “oh okay, we’re supposed to notice that this relationship is special”. I also definitely remember a scene, after the rescue mission, when bakugo gives Kirishima some money to either cheer him up or to compensate for a camera or smth that he bought for the mission – which was his convoluted way of showing he cares, I think.
As much as I hate bakugo (and think Kirishima could do sooo much better
lbr) I try not to let that stop me from looking at their relationships
objectively and basically, out of all of bakugo’s relationships, the one he has with Kirishima stands out to me the most – in a positive way, that is (don’t get me started on his “friendship” with Izuku, that one is beyond fucked up) – and vice versa. Maybe I’m being overly optimistic but I think his relationship with Kirishima has the potential to change bakugo for the better.
