not yet, i’m really busy and so i’m way behind on where i want to be with chapter 6, aha. it doesn’t help that it’s emotionally taxing to write at the beginning. BUT… once i hit the fun stuff, hopefully it’ll take off. as for an update, i’ll try and… get it up… sometime. soon, hopefully, question mark, maybe?
mitoki actually has red hair!! here’s a comic i drew with him once and left in the author’s notes like once and never mentioned again. and here’s some sketches i did last year while figuring out his design
i just happen to have this sketch of tamanaha-sensei lying around!
she is very stronk and has a lot of piercings + some fancy tattoo work on her upper left shoulder!! (plus a few elsewhere) the piercings aren’t very practical for being a martial artist, but i’d be lying if i said she wasn’t a little bit vain.
“and check it out,” mitoki says proudly with a grin, brandishing the button. “it runs doom!”
izuku stares at the setup. this is like the time mitoki wired his computer so he could play video games with a set of toasters, but worse. “i didn’t even know they could run programs, much less doom.”
“izuku-kun,” mitoki says wisely, “one of your greatest limits is that you are afraid to use your imagination. once you let go of your inhibitions, you’ll be unstoppable.”
“i think what you call ‘inhibitions’ are what everyone else calls ‘common sense,’ mitoki.”
“common sense is for commoners, izuku-chan, it’s in the name! that’s precisely why you shouldn’t listen to it. it’s time for you to rise above the masses.”
all i know is that mitoki is gender variant and he uses he/him pronouns and he loves making jokes about how gender isn’t real. also that he tried to build a trumpet that blows out fire when you play it. mitoki’s just off doing his own thing and having a great time and i dont think i’ll ever know more than that
im laughing because the kanji you picked out for “mitoki” are the same ones i picked out!!! thank you for finding a way to write hirata though, i didn’t really bother figuring out how he’d write his family name.
things ive been thinking about writing & publishing:
urarakas pov of events in chapter 6 of byggualom (or, “What’s Wrong With Bakugou?: The Investigation”)
mitoki pov of events in chapter 7/8 of byggualom (which are yet to be written, but concern The Events Of Kamino Ward)
msa sports festival au (already partially written But… not sure if i want to put it on ao3? feels weird to publish au of my au but also. its too long to put on tumblr)
if theres any interest in any of the above please let me know in the replies below vvv …… thank you
thank you all for your feedback, i will work on 1 and 3! since sports festival au is already mostly written, itll probably get published first… the other things, will soon be forthcoming. thanks for your support as well!!
mitoki has been an unprecedentedly useful character in the fic, for everything from a) tech-related plot points to b) being a good friend to izuku, i really didn’t mean for him to have so many parts in the story but i’ve gotten very attached. I’M GLAD YOU’RE ATTACHED TO HIM TOO, i love mitoki getting some love, if you ever have any need for extracanonfanon mitoki content FEEL FREE TO SEND SOMETHING IN
when i started reading bnha and found out that our extremely lovable protagonist was quirkless, i was incredibly excited to see him become japan’s greatest hero without a quirk. i was completely ready to see him blast through everyone’s preconceived notions of what you need in order to be a hero, i was absolutely down to see him Rock Lee his way to victory, so when izuku obtained one for all from all might, i was… a bit disappointed.
on one hand, it was vv vindicating to see japan’s greatest hero recognize izuku’s strength of character and potential, and decide to take a chance on it! on the other hand, stories are meaningful for the struggles that characters go through, and in a world where having superpowers is the norm, izuku becoming a great hero without a superpower would have been more unusual & meaningful than izuku becoming a great hero after obtaining the strongest quirk in the world.
horikoshi has done a good job of giving izuku obstacles and challenges to go through, so izuku getting one for all wasn’t as disappointing as it could have been! but i was still left with a vague sense of bereavement, and after reading a wonderful meta on how izuku becoming a hero without a superpower would’ve been a better story than izuku getting one for all, i started wondering about the opm au – where izuku doesn’t have a quirk but becomes strong through his own hard work & stubbornness.
the initial sketches for the opm!au were kind of hilarious, because my first thought was izuku taking on a saitama-esque personality – but it was wildly out of character and i couldn’t stand it, so i decided to try writing izuku becoming ridiculously strong OPM-style from the very very beginning. and then the au took on a life of its own and turned into chapter 1 of what is now The Bnha Fic.
i think the lesson here is that every time i try and write something “just a little bit” and “just to see how it would go” i inevitably will spawn a story of monstrous proportions. please put me out of my misery
(SIDE NOTE: i have never been able to find the One Meta ever since it first planted the idea of The Bnha Fic in my head. it appeared in my life like a benevolent guiding spirit hailing from above, and then disappeared as sweetly & ephemerally as it came, leaving me only with the sweet phrase “izuku rock lee’s his way to victory” as remembrance. i mourn its loss every day)
