this is kind of really rambley BUT:no, momlonde was a bad parent not because she didn’t know how to parent, but because of the combined driving forces of alcoholism/depression & history of trauma (thanks, @mmmmalo!). if anything she was neglectful at worst–i don’t think she was physically/verbally/emotionally abusive, at least in a traditional sense? like the emotional abuse rose went through was more of like…a horrible side effect of her own mother’s slow self destruction rather than her mother telling her that she was worthless or something to that degree

HOWEVER. having a good parent, or even a good EXAMPLE of a parent, doesn’t ensure that you yourself will be a good parent! roxy and calliope grew up in extremely dire circumstances, and calliope is from a species so weird and cryptic that she believed that she couldn’t love due to misinformation (spoiler: calliope can love! she’s beautiful and overcame so much to get where she is in comic). idk i’m rambling but yeah.
