That 2017 #look

On the other side of the dressy scale there was a 7 months pregnant lawyer sitting on the floor at IAD

At O’Hare there was a lawyer who was about five minutes away from giving birth sitting there in her sweatpants with a sign that said “I’m a lawyer and I speak Hindi/Urdu”. Just her and her sign and supersized tea from McDonalds.

I’ll say it again. MOSTLY WOMEN.

Why does their being mostly women matter?

Because, statistically speaking, 64% of lawyers in the United States are men, meaning that the majority of the demographic showing up should reflect this.
It is also interesting to note that only 27% of American born lawyers are female- that means that a lot of these women are likely immigrants or foreign born.
We have a majority of women showing up in a field where they are a minority; women who dropped everything to help defend human rights and the country.
There’s no cis-male equivalency to pregnancy, but if you fail to see the importance and stength of a woman who might feasibly go into labour at any second still standing up for what is right and good whilst the majority of politicians are cowering, then I can’t help you.

Why most of the lawyers you see battling Trump’s immigration order are women

“I have been working non-stop for three
days and I have not made a penny,” [said a female lawyer who had been at a Texas airport and asked not to be quoted by name]. A friend, who is a male
immigration lawyer, went on vacation over the weekend, she said, because
he felt it wouldn’t be lucrative. “Male immigration lawyers look at
this and say ‘This is not a business opportunity for me,’” she said.

“On the Senate floor late Thursday, Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) made a new and tantalizing claim about what’s in the FBI documents on Brett M. Kavanaugh that all senators have now reviewed. Senators are severely limited in what they can say about these documents, which are summaries of the interviews that the FBI conducted as part of their renewed background check into Kavanaugh, after Christine Blasey Ford went public with charges that he sexually assaulted her, which led to a host of new claims like that one and others about his drinking at the time.

“Warren noted these limitations and said the following (emphasis added):

“’Senators have been muzzled. So I will now say three things that committee staff has explained are permissible to say without violating committee rules. … One: This was not a full and fair investigation. It was sharply limited in scope and did not explore the relevant confirming facts. Two: The available documents do not exonerate Mr. Kavanaugh.

”‘And three: the available documents contradict statements Mr. Kavanaugh made under oath. I would like to back up these points with explicit statements from the FBI documents — explicit statements that should be available for the American people to see. But the Republicans have locked the documents behind closed doors.’

“Warren, then, appears to have consulted with Judiciary Committee lawyers and was seemingly told that per the rules, she could divulge just this much about what is in the documents, and not a syllable more. At a minimum, Warren appears to be suggesting that there is material gathered from these FBI interviews that demonstrates that Kavanaugh lied to the committee.

…“It’s more than a little troubling that the Senate is going to vote on something as important as a Supreme Court nomination with the American people entirely in the dark on the matter.” [Stephen Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas at Austin]

What a wonderful initiative! Spread the word.

holy shit, spread this like wildfire guys before November

one of the biggest and most devious tools being used against voters now is that voting locations for lower income neighborhoods and neighborhoods that are primarily black or hispanic are suddenly closed down, in the middle of nowhere, or only open for 4 hours a day

do whatever you can to help negate that being a barrier

Robin: I must warn you. Pirates tend to betray each other whenever an alliance is formed. Please think carefully if you want to continue with this Luffy.

Luffy: *turns to Law* Hey are you going to cheat on me?

Law with little to no emotion: No.

Luffy: There you have it, Robin. The wedding will go on!

lawluheaven:

Luffy: Law likes to pretend he’s all tough but I once saw him start crying when a dog pressed its nose against his. Those tattoos and cocky smirks are masks hiding a giant softie who just wants a hug.

Zoro half asleep: Why did you have the need to wake me up at four in the morning to tell me this?

Luffy: I couldn’t sleep. I keep thinking about how I want to give him a big hug forever and never let go. I needed to share these thoughts.

Training begins.

*fond roll of eyes* At this point, I think I have to be grateful almost all the time now, Lang, because you have really good timing. Even when I’m reading this almost 24 hours later, the story still warms my heart because of how funny and enjoyable it is.

Reviewing, here I go. I’m a bit more well-rested, with not so many classes today, so I can do this. Though, I’m starting to think I can only do one ramble a day now, considering my stamina when it comes to words and how writing anything seems to take something from me every time. *shrugs helplessly* I’ll try to sleep more in that case if it means giving something, because gosh, the workaholic in me wants to do more. Buuuuut I know that would just give off so many alarm bells because I’m not a robot.

*waves hands in the air* Anywho.

Training! That’s certainly one way to go about things. Half of me wants to giggle at the antics between Shinso and Kei when it comes to the trade-off between the two; the other half of me wants to just feel bad for Shinso because I’ve been in his shoes plenty of times. The number of moments that I’ve had to (1) either exercise with my exercise-junkie family, who can do a lot more than me in push-ups and so on, or (2) stick along with them for a bike ride back when I had more free time meant I was trying to hold back groans and complaining as much as Shinso is doing right now. Like, gosh, Kei, I know you’re used to ninja-standards, but bring it down a little. =-= *speaking from experience being on both ends of the problem*

On a more positive note, this chapter certainly gives a lot of background and (possibly coincidental or not, I’m not sure) foreshadowing as to how Kei became a Jounin-sensei to the Dragonlings later on in CYB! I’ve been reviewing a lot of the earlier chapters for the sake of S&S research, so to get some extra idea on how Kei conducts herself when training others is kinda sweet. Though, then again, Tomoko and Shinso are two very different people. The way Kei is patient when correcting Shinso’s posture and her trolling him all the same, it is endearing.

Any last notes… Obito! Obito, I missed you! I know it’s only been a chapter or two, but hey, resident Uchiha who didn’t get corrupted by Madara, welcome back! It’s good to see you be an oblivious doof as always to Shinso’s thought process, and to finish a run like it was nothing… pfffft. That emoji was also really cute, since I have yet to actually figure out how to do those emojis. I’m just limited to smileys and things like =-= since I don’t know much else with my keyboard. Though, seeing Kei correct Shinso on Obito being her best friend and not her boyfriend is already having me giggle a bit inside, because we both know who’s getting that title in the next few in-story years. Hee hee. But at the same time, it’s good to see the characters in their teenage years again, because it’s only these times where sillier moments can happen, at least in my opinion. Adults can still be silly and dorky of course, I mean, my dad recently bought a drone to play around with, hah, but maybe I’m just too used to being serious almost all the time. Oh well. Friends say I’m easy to tease as a result of that, but eh. I ramble, and this is working as a review, I hope.

🙂 You did good on this so far, Lang. Nothing bad to note as always, and I enjoyed the read. Keep up the good work. I’ll make sure to rest as much as I can to give more rambles when necessary. *salutes*

I’ll see you at the next update for the next ramble!

It is hard to get in shape! If exercise was easy, it’d be a lot more simple to persuade kids to actually do it. Kei is just spoiled by her ninja upbringing, since she never really got a chance to be anything but a tiny warrior. Means gym class is a cinch, though.

Poor Shinso. He’s in hell now.

And Obito likes being able to help! And his presence let me obliquely point out that the ninja-verse characters are substantially more casual with each other than Kei is with anybody in Tokyo. Even her narration doesn’t ever call Shinso by his personal name, and she hasn’t changed “-san” to “-kun” or anything.

Thanks again for your kind words!
