“mimmoth influenza” is a very serious spark-originated virus that was initially just another one of many attempts by an overenthusiastic spark to eradicate mimmoths for good that made the jump from mimmoths to humans at the kind of breakneck speed symptotic of “things that (sometimes metaphorically) turn on their creators and (sometimes metaphorically) rampage through the countryside”. 

needless to say the spark in question is dead. 

it’s mostly contained now but it’s a pain in the ass to deal with when outbreaks pop up.
