Honestly with the way the school treats the shit with Dash (not just to Danny, even, just how Dash treats people in general, because we do see him bully other people), I can’t exactly say I’m surprised they had shit like Sidney Poindexter happened.
I think the way the show handled bullying in that episode also bugged me, it’s just been too long since I’ve seen it to say how.urgh yeah
it’s been forever since i’ve watched that episode too, but wasn’t the moral like “standing up to the people who are hurting you is somehow morally equivalent to bullying them yourself”
Fuck, yeah, like… from what I remember… I distinctly remember Poindexter calling Danny a bully for bullying Dash, and just like. Show. Show no.
Like. I think they were trying to make that some kind of “use your powers responsibly”, but. When it’s the victim lashing out at the person that’s basically their abuser, it just. Doesn’t fucking work at all. Like. Goddamn.
Where the fuck is Dash’s “use your powers responsibly” lesson, show? Why the fuck does Dash get to continue to be a bully to pretty much everyone with very few repercussions and without ever changing his behavior (which, yeah, some of that can be blamed on that “the status quo is God” thing which was popular back then, but even then that’s still a trope that the show runners are choosing to use here), but Danny gets called a bully for fighting back?
It’s just. I know I probably need to watch that episode again, but I still feel like if they wanted to teach that “Danny needs to learn how to use his (in this case supernatural) powers responsibly”, they really could have done so in a better way, because… the way they handled it just seemed so… icky, to me. Especially with Dash pretty much always being a jerk for (from what I remember-I think he had a few humanizing moments, but idk if he ever actually really changed his behavior at all) the entire series. It just fails so much.
Again, kinda a Thing for shows from that time, but still. That really needed to be done better.
MMHHHHMMMMM
also yes the moral ramifications of possession/mind control probably should have been explored

Ye. Stuff like that showed up in W.I.T.C.H. and I’m pretty sure some other kids shows and I just. *pokes at it with a stick* Why is this a thing.
Like I know why-it’s more of a problem with the genre, because rape culture, misogyny, etc.-but like. I really wish it could have been done better.
(Especially in W.I.T.C.H.’s case, since that had like. 14 or 15 year old girls that could look like they were 18 or 19 due to (granted transformation instead of mind control) magic-and at least one of them did use that to kiss/flirt/date with an older guy, which was very. Eugh. Gross. So like
Ew.)
