I love how Ron and Hermione exhibit certain traits of Lily and James. You have Ron, a pureblood who can be a bit of a git sometimes but would lay down his life for the people he cares about and is almost more offended by the treatment of muggle-borns than the muggle-borns themselves (not unlike James). And then there’s Hermione, a brilliantly talented muggle-born who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself (remember when she slapped Malfoy?) or to stick up for people she thinks are being treated unfairly (remember S.P.E.W.? Remember how Lily stuck up for Snape when James picked on him?)
And really, when you think about it, Ron and Hermione were the ones who raised Harry, in a way. They are the ones who are there with him from the beginning of his Hogwarts journey, until the very end. They’re there for him through his successes and through his failures and they are the ones who truly teach him what it means to be loyal, to be brave, to be good. Yes, Harry had other role models, but just think for a second what it would have been like if he didn’t have Ron to exemplify loyalty, the value of friendship, and the importance of admitting you fucked up and saying sorry. What it would have been like if he didn’t have Hermione to constantly nag him into doing his school work and reminding him (when he needed it) that the world didn’t revolve around him. Harry lost Lily and James, but he found Hermione and Ron, who unknowingly stepped into the role of Harry’s guardians.
