That caption hits hard. When I think Laika + Jade parrels I think sacrifice, isolation and lack of agency. How often Jade gets cast off on her own by powers beyond her control. It especially brings to mind the timeline where jade got stuck on the ship without john or dave sprite, which is where I see this taking place. Maybe after successfully distracting herself for awhile she sees her face in the mirror and suddenly is reminded how long it been since she saw a face other than her own?
