simkjrs:

yeah sure thing!!

mitoki: in essence, he can slowly overwrite people’s perception of reality with… well, hallucinations. the longer he keeps his quirk active, the more severe the hallucinations get. the things people see start off fairly small (shadows moving, colors inverting, etc.); on the extreme end of the spectrum, they take on a nightmarish quality, convincing people that the world is falling apart, that gravity has ceased, that rifts in space-time are opening all around them and a single misstep can cause them to disappear from existence forever, and so on.

  • hallucination slowly overwrites people’s ability to perceive what’s really happening, until all their senses are controlled. when people try and act on the things they see, it’s entirely possible they will hurt themselves running into something that isn’t “shown” in the hallucination.
  • how people react to what they see depends on their personality, so that can’t be predicted. the victims of mitoki’s quirk can become dangerous or violent (both to themselves or others), or they could just curl up on the ground in a fetal position or something.
  • the hallucinations can be stopped in the early stages by yelling at the victim, slapping them really hard, etc.
  • mitoki sees and experiences everything the victim sees as well, and can’t separate himself mentally from the hallucination. this is unfortunate because he, like the victim, ends up losing sense of what’s real and basically falls apart as much as the next person. as it is, the quirk is probably harder on mitoki than on anyone else.
  • what happens in a hallucination is inspired by a) the victim’s fears b) mitoki’s ideas and intent when he activates the quirk and c) mitoki’s imagination. the few times mitoki has used his quirk, he’s lost control the same way you lose control of a nightmare
  • also like a dream, time can seem to pass very quickly or very slowly
  • hallucinations can only break someone’s perception of reality so far before the mind shuts it down. the victim will usually pass out anywhere between 10 minutes and 2 hours from the time the quirk is activated; sort of like taking a really quick nap. they’ll be back to normal when they wake up (aside from any trauma they may have acquired).
  • he discovered this quirk when he accidentally used it on someone who was bullying him, knocking out the bully and driving himself unconscious for a few days. (turns out the quirk is very hard on its user…)
  • the last time he used it was when he was eight, on his father. in short: father was terrible and abusive, mother had left with mitoki, and father was not okay with that. mitoki, being a loyal son and an angry child, decided to try driving off his father with his quirk, despite the harm it would do to him. it worked, but it took mitoki a long time to recover from that. (his mom had to take him to a therapist. he actually still goes to therapy!) to this day, he has a phobia of absolute darkness, swimming, and centipedes; he’s also got some odd habits, one being that he hates writing with black ink and dislikes dark-colored drinks.
  • anyways, those are the only two times mitoki has ever used his quirk! he hates his quirk a lot.

tamanaha: she can sense objects, people, pretty much anything within a certain “area of effect,” and its relation to her. very useful

when she uses it, she can sense anything within a certain radius of her, up to half a mile. The bigger the radius, the less detailed the information she receives; so at a half mile radius, tamanaha can guess where there are higher or lower concentrations of people, but not much else. not much use in a city. at, say, a 5 meter radius, tamanaha is aware of the position and movement of anyone inside her “area of effect,” to the point where she can tell where they are directing their gaze. she can sense objects and small animals as well. at 5 meters tamanaha can navigate an unfamiliar landscape blind and deaf. her students often complain that she has eyes in the back of her head. the 0.5 meter radius features such detailed information as the wind, flow of energy and heat, the thousands of tiny chemical reactions going on in a living organism at any given moment, dust motes, bacteria, microbes, etc. this is Too Much Information and overloads tamanaha if she does it for more than like… a second

  • it’s a lot of information to take in. using the quirk while going about your day is a headache. it gets overwhelming, and then tamanaha has to stop using it. seeing as she’s practiced with it her whole life, she can maintain it at a half-mile radius for like 12 hours, but it gives her a headache; at 5 meters, she usually stops after like 2 hours.
  • when using the quirk for a small radius, tamanaha usually finds it easier to just close her eyes so she doesn’t have to deal with input from her eyes as well as from her quirk.

tamanaha doesn’t tell anyone about her quirk unless they insist on it, just because she considers it a trick up her sleeve and you don’t give up an advantage like that! she makes sure to train with her quirk active just so she’s used to fighting with that additional influx of information. but she also trains a lot without it because she doesn’t want to be dependent on her quirk.
