A dog

lawluheaven:

He was out on a jog, wanting to start the day right by getting rid of all the extra energy that seemed to always be in his body.  Luffy got up right as the sun was breaking the horizon, and didn’t want to wake his brothers by staying home to do some exercise. So he pulled on some good old running shoes, popped in some headphones and left, sending Ace a quick text to let them know where he was once they woke.

He planned to jog to the park’s center where he would some yoga then shadow box the trees. If he was lucky no one was at the large fountain yet and he could do some gymnastics on it too.

But as soon as he got there his morning plans change. It was the strong smell of copper that caused him to pause. Due to the years of he and his siblings sometimes go a little too far when sparring Luffy instantly know what that smell was.

“Hello?” He called looking around, one headphone hanging in the air from where he yanked it out.  The park, with it’s bright green grass, was to his left while an empty street dividing the park and the city was to his right. There were no people in sight and hardly any cars.

Where was that smell coming from?  “Hello anyone here?”

A tiny whimper drew his attention to some of the low-level bushes that lined the sidewalk. Luffy walked to it cautiously.

When he got close, he saw the red lines leading from the highway to the bush. They weren’t that big but they were worrying. If he wasn’t looking for them he may have missed them, and that meant that at least whatever was in the bushes hadn’t bled out- hopefully.

He pushed the branches out of the way, careful to not get his red jumpsuit caught in the thorns and peak in. Luffy gasped at the sight of a bleeding dog. It’s red coat ruined by the red that pooled slightly around him, his right back leg the cause.

At first, Luffy felt a huge amount of rage. Someone hit the dog- judging, by the way, the red dots on the sidewalk lead- and hadn’t done anything for him or her! The dog looked up at him, with wide scared eyes, whimpering in pain.

“Shh, It’s okay buddy. I’m Luffy. I want to help…” he reached down, drawing back slightly when dog growl but stubbornly push through, to pet it’s head. It tried to bite him but Luffy didn’t care, more interested in picking it up and getting out of the bushes.

It took a few minutes- and a few swears, when it’s tiny teeth, managed to get a few of his fingers- but eventually, Luffy was wrapping the dog in his arms and taking off to the animal hospital.

As he ran he tried to make sure not to shake the dog too much, never taking note of the collar around its neck, much to worry about it’s health. He gets there just as one of the workers is opening up and rushes forward with a loud desperate  “Please help!”

A few hours later, Luffy is in the middle of a grateful bear hug from a man named Law who is the Beppo- the dog- owner and had been desperately looking for him since he got out of his house one night.

He’s tall, dark and covered in tattoos. As soon as he arrived half of the people pressed himself against the walls to get out of his path. He would be considered scary to anyone else.

Luffy thinks he’s adorable.

“It’s alright. I’m glad Bepo is okay”

“Can’t I make it up to you somehow? Bepo is my best friend, I couldn’t imagine what would have happened if you didn’t-”

“Buy me meat!”
