odditycollector:

how does this square with the Word of God that davekat is canon?

Isn’t Word of God that every ship is canon, and every fantroll too?

…Are you talking about the vine going around, or was there something else I missed? Because I thought the vine was funny but obv. not to be taken too seriously? Like, I do not want to spread rumours about people on the internet, but I have heard tell from a buddy who got it from a reliable source that Andrew Hussie is kind of a troll.

If he wanted to clarify one way or the other, he would have done it in the story, in either Dave or Karkat’s dialogue. It can only be open to interpretation because it’s meant to be. So – and this is me talking as someone who likes writing open endings sometimes – speculating on what really happened is fun, but arguing about the One Correct Answer is a trap. One it would be hilarious to watch people fall into.

Unless he revisits this timeline to answer, *all* supported interpretations of their relationship-state are true. And even if he does do that, he still meant it to be an open question *now*!

It is narratively unsatisfying but, borrowing a different physics metaphor, let’s please not have a battle over whether davekat is a wave or a particle.

…..Besides, how many times does the author have to die before it finally sticks?
