Okay watched both Princess Diaries movies again for the first time since they each came out. Queen Clarise and Joe’s romance remains the best 10/10 would have emotions about this again.

I am mad enough about Paolo being called in at the end of the first movie, but for him to come back in the second movie as well? No! Fuck off Paolo! You broke a confidentiality agreement, resulting in a 15-year-old being deluged by the press at her school, which theoretically means it endangered her life too since her security detail wasn’t expecting it. What the bloody hell were they thinking, still asking him to act as a stylist after that? BAD CHOICE.

I just…skipped the entire beach scene. Nope. Bye.

Using her own short-notice bachelorette party as an informal get-together of as many princesses her-age-and-younger where they could be silly and relax was a fantastic network-building move. And during the parade, Mia pays enough attention to the crowd to notice a little girl getting picked on, and promptly intervenes, gets all the kids in the parade, and follows-through on finding out who they are to the point of renovating the second palace to be a home for them. A movie only has so much time, and needs to use shorthand, but these two points illustrate her potential for both foreign diplomacy and internal infrastructure building. Well done, Mia.

The unsafe archery practice bothered me. This country’s had archery as a vital part of coronation for centuries, and they don’t have a proper range? That doesn’t endanger the gardeners? That breaks my suspension of disbelief. None of these filmmakers have spent any time getting chewed out by my stepmother for archery safety lapses, that’s for sure.

I like that Mia & Andrew did develop a genuine friendship and hope they remain in each other’s lives.
