The ancient and powerful villain may have had a calm and gentle face as he spoke, but he was furious, not at the hero, but the gods for continually sending kids and teenagers to fight their battles.

The injured child is trying to be brave, he doesn’t know if he’ll fall if he tries to stand so he stays on the ground. The villain picks them up, continuing to praise them for doing what they thought was right, standing up against impossible odds. They get the kid medical attention and get them all cleaned up from the fight, then carries them to a place filled with kids happily playing together.
“Your gods can have you back when they stop sending kids to their death.” The villain tells them. “Now get some rest, you need to heal.”
