Some random fighting styles headcanons for Marco & Ace!!
As an addition to this, Ace actually really likes messing with people. He knows he shouldn’t do it, on an intellectual level, and Sabo used to tell him off for it all the time but just!! pissing people off is the best.
He takes great delight in the rush of adrenaline that comes with a fight, which is why it almost seems to go out of his way to actually end up in fights. Thatch and Marco have an excellent time keeping him away from people whenever he ends up drunk because he’s a gazillion times more likely to challenge people while drunk. Thankfully, he doesn’t usually drink alcohol because it messes with his narcolepsy, but so far Ace has argued with:
- A guy in port that he claimed looked to much like his father so he had to fight him
- A woman he claims looked like Dadan, so he had to fight her
- the mizzen mast
- the main mast
- the leg of whitebeard’s chair
- Whitebeard’s mustache (he claims he thought it was stefan)
- whitebeard him self
- Stefan
- The sails (everyone got pissed at him for that one, because he set them on fire)
- He tried to fight a tsunami once aND ONCE NAMUR SAVED HIM IZO TRIED TO DROWN HIM AGAIN FOR SCARING THEM ALL
- Thought Thatch’s hair was attacking him so he tried to burn it
Marco is so confused by the fact that Ace is actually really good at wielding weapons. When they end up fighting together on a mission one time is the first time Marco actually realises Ace is really good.
And I don’t just mean ‘really good’ and ‘confused’ I mean that Ace kicked ass so bad that Marco was left standing there in shock and absolute pride and holy shit that’s actually really amazing wHAT THE HELL ACE ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Ace did grow up learning staff fighting after all, so he’s quite good, even though he shifted his style into more hand-to-hand combat due to his devil fruit and the fact that relying on his – actually quite easily broken pipe – seemed likely to get him hurt.
