re-reading this backstory is hard emotionally because this poor child went through a lot.  I’ve seen people discount his backstory because he didn’t have to deal with death, but the physical and mental toll this would have had on him would be immense.  

Everybody has to experience the loss of a loved one at some point in their lives.  Not everybody could go through what Sanji has and make it out alive.
